The end of summer

The crab apple tree

The weather has been lovely this week. It’s still warm during the day but when the sun goes down a coolness sweeps in to refresh everything. We went for a walk the other day and picked some crab apples that were growing in the back meadow. They’re a beautiful ruby red all the way through.

The tomatoes are still going strong. We made a batch of bruscetta with some delicious heirlooms and fresh basil from our garden. It tasted like summertime.

The goats are loving the cooler temperatures, too. They’ve been venturing further out in the evenings enjoying the abundance of greenery while it’s still there.

We go to sleep at night with the windows open and drift off to the sounds of the crickets. What a wonderful way to end a summer.
